Launch SEA Yachting magazine

Former Managing Editor of Southeast Asia Yachting.

The creation of SEA Yachting was based on a solid foundation of growth initiatives for the marine and leisure yacht industry. These initiatives were arranged for by Bianca Hein and they appeared as regular magazine articles by their respective authors. Additionally these initiatives are watched by Thailand's Board of Investment. By the fifth issue, all initiatives were in print:

• IMO series (safety series based on self regulation)
• Local Knowledge (satellite imagery and underwater data on what lies beneath)
• Business-2-Business (business matchmaking opportunities where all profiles were successfully matched)
• Dream Builders (project management and marketing support to land-based industries, presentation made to an inward investors mission from Germany)
• Piracy in modern Southeast Asia, setting the record straight. Bianca Hein and Scott Neuman, a fellow sailor and an Associated Press editor, aim to answer the question of piracy with an ambitious series of articles that will cover all aspects of piracy, so this series will become the definitive word on the subject in Southeast Asia – especially as it applies to pleasure yachts.

Issue 1.5, July-August 2006, is the last magazine produced by Bianca Hein. While I am no longer affiliated with SEA Yachting, I will, however, continue to be involved in activities and issues that are supportive of the yacht industry of Southeast Asia.

Created, Produced and Hosted Dream Builders Business Show which aired on FOX - in the Pacific NW.

Created, Produced and Hosted Bizline Radio Show which aired in the state of Washington and Idaho.

Publishing and Promotions

Publications and Promotions Manager - Thai Sky Television - Established an in-house Publishing and Promotions Dept. for a television station to be all Thai staffed in 18 months. Supported the marketing department and reduced costs by 11%. As an executive board member for the Miss Universe Pageant, I managed requests by 200 foreign and local journalists. 

Public Relations

CEO - ExtraPR.com - Created, coded, designed and developed an independent wire service. ExtraPR averages an 80% placement in Google News. Industry influencers furnish their own unique media lists. Extra! Extra! Read All About It! is federally registered.

Travel

Executive Editor - Shilpa Publishing Company - Wrote, edited and updated a bimonthly 112-page Guide To South Thailand. Created, wrote, planned layout and hired translators for an annual 214-page color guide book on the entire kingdom. Destination Thailand was translated from English into German, French, Italian and Japanese.

Managing Editor - Royal Nepal Airlines - Wrote and edited stories for Yeti Flight Tales, an in-flight travel magazine.

Freelance Writer - Yachting, Cruising World, Cruising Helmsman, published a 12-month series Navigator's Notebook.

Online B2B

Online Content Editor - Portland General Electric - Wrote all editorial content for an e-commerce site. Built relations with 34 business associations and trade industry leaders for co-branding of website. 30 partnerships and alliances were initiated. 14 major newswire syndicates sourced content for business news. 

Case Management

American Embassy - Case Worker - Reviewed special immigration cases of Vietnamese refugees who were previous U.S. Government employees, or persons with long-term imprisonment (10+ years) because of their involvement with U.S. forces, such as the Phoenix operation and Air America.  Senator Kerry presented this report to the U.S. Senate.

State Government

Oregon Economic and Community Develop. Dept. - Assistant - Helped form the Governor's Small Business Council and earned The Department the top national award from the U.S. Small Business Administration. Prepared briefs for overseas trade missions, desktop publishing, internet research, grant writing.

Small Business Resource Directory for Oregon - Author - Researched and compiled the most extensive directory of which agencies deliver results for free or low-cost assistance.

Technical, TQM and Proposal Writing

NTC HeliTours - Founder and Project Manager -
I was the first foreigner to receive a helicopter and fixed wing business license deemed for tourism use. I set up the company for ISO 9002, Board of Investment privileges and a future stock exchange listing. Technical, TQM and proposal writing included:

Privatization Plan for the Open Skies Policy in Thailand -
Wrote a 100-page Helicopter Air Tour Proposal requesting a permit to operate an aviation business. This involved bureaucratic negotiations to acquire the unwritten guidelines.

Flight Operations and Maintenance Manual of Aircraft -
Wrote a Flight Operations Manual to set performance standards for safety, passenger comfort and reliable schedules.

Helipad Planning -
Negotiated the landing rights for eight helipads with the Airport Authority of Thailand for landing rights, charges,  permits.

Thailand Board of Investment Application -
The 200-page proposal I wrote obtained maximum tax benefits and privileges as an aviation service and tourism classification:
8-years tax-free status of 37%; afterwards, a 5-year tax reduction at 18.5%; and a 25% reduction in utilities for 8-years.

Total Quality Management (TQM) ISO 9002 and Training -
Wrote a TQM system which conformed to the ISO 9002 International Standards. The result of being the first aviation and tourism entity in Thailand to recognize ISO 9002.

Awards

Winner of the U.S. Small Business Administration Business Journalist of the Year Award.
